BIO-IDENTICAL HORMONES

What is a Bio-identical / Natural Hormone?
Picture
The term "Bio-Identical" means, a Hormone that is identical in Biological Structure and therefore similar in Physiological Activity to what the body naturally produces on it's own.  Hormone replacement supports a structure-function relationship between the active hormone and the receptor to which it binds. Therefore, a Bio-Identical Hormone binds the correct receptors and follows the same metabolic pathways used by your own Hormones. This relationship is analogous to a key in a lock. Bio-Identical Hormones (Key) fit the lock (Receptor) precisely so the "door" opens fully, resulting in more predictable, appropriate physiological responses.

For this reason, Bio-identical / Natural Hormones often have fewer side effects and yield more positive physiological actions. Actions which effect every cell in the body, most notably, the brain. Estrogen is the "key" which activates the Serotonin receptor, and therefore has the ability to effect mood, sleep, and appetite to name a few.

Serotonin is the main modulator or "Gatekeeper" for all other Hormones including the major Brain Neurotransmitters. Serotonin is also the target for Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) otherwise known as "antidepressants." Estrogen assists in Serotonin  production thereby supporting positive mood .

Bio-identical Progesterone is an agonist activating GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid) which is necessary for all Serotonin-activated functions. Some of these actions which GABA may support includes diminished tremulousness by calming of the nervous system, improved sleep, and anxiety reduction including the cessation of panic attacks.

Thus, balancing Estrogen with Progesterone is imperative in any hormone replacement plan. In order to more fully balance the system, Thyroid Hormones (T4 and T3), Testosterone, and Adrenal Hormones (DHEA and Cortisol) will also be addressed in order to provide a real, sustainable, treatment for the symptoms of hormone imbalances.

If you can relate to the symptoms listed below, it is a good possibility you are suffering the ill effects of diminished / imbalanced hormones.
